SAY HELLO SANGGRALOKA
Luxury Accommodation, Local Etiquette
A rightfully selected name needing no apparent translation, one that narrates it’s very description, Sanggraloka means “a self-contained commercial establishment which attempts to provide for most of a vacationer’s wants”. No hidden agendas here, but openly transparent and similarly intentional. Being their very first guests, an unexpected treat, assisted us in getting their best online deal available, but also made us feel like we were a part of the early unravelling to their story, new opening and grand reveal.
Much excitement and genuine enthusiasm (and accompanied nerves) within the team, went out to meet our every need, over and above. It was authentic and it was real, the kind of innocent treatment you’d wish would never leave them as they grow beyond the present now.
Tucked within the rice fields, towards the higher regions of Taro lies this breakaway from the hustle and high-energied pace and stimulation of the central city hubs. A place that reminded us of a time we’d spent with some friends back home in South Africa. Although in contrast now a fraction of the price and almost a concentrated contained version of it, but definitely the cute little sister of the two and a nice remanence of the time of prior.
Spacious rooms allowing you to enter a state of rest immediately, as your travel luggage is out of sight, in one of the allocated areas or far corners. Beautiful wood and curated crafted pieces fill the spaces, and allow for continuity and flow between bedroom, bathroom and the uninterrupted view out towards the lush green rice fields.
The luxurious bathroom with deep walled feature bathtub, made of dark stone, is the centrepiece of the space. Neatly positioned above it, a wooden framed window looks out over the pool, where at night, giving off a blue fluorescent glow. It’s romantic and at the same time designed with beautiful simplicity.
Waking up the following morning you’re greeted with warm smiles, as the main sliding door opens out onto the courtyard, outside concierge desk and designated personnel.
Escorted to breakfast, downstairs at the poolside deck, is far from your average hotel pool area, but more a unique high-walled villa experience. As green grass lines the concrete tiled walls as the waterfall recycles it’s way up towards the temple-shaped wooden feature. This creates the backdrop, sound and ambience to this specially designed breakaway space.
The food is fresh and colourful, as the chef is eagerly crafting his rehearsed dishes, whilst hoping you choose something different from the day before. No request is too much, even if for a top up of coffee, another juice or toasted bread with selection of jams.
Continuing on this desire to meet your every need, order your bicycles to explore the countryside the following day. Brand new rides line the front entrance, ready for adventure.
Communication constantly trickles through, with new information and all in attempt to create a lasting, tailored and memorable experience. Any feedback is welcomed, as they take-it onboard and try to rapid-implement, and apply. It’s early days for Sanggraloka, but i hope the raw uncomplicated feel about it never loses its humble beginnings.
A beautiful space, with a beautiful team at the heart of it too.
